Web Definitions

WWW - World Wide Web. A part of the Internet, but not the total Internet.

URL - Universal Resource Locator. The Address of information on the World Wide Web or the Internet.

Such as: http://www.nsuok.edu

Hypertext or Hypertext Link - A place within one file or document where a link is made to connect to another file or document. The "Blue Line" or where the "Hand" appears.

HTTP - Hypertext Transport Protocol. The way packets and files move around the Internet.

Browser - The piece of software (Netscape Internet Explorer) that displays WWW pages for you.

Editor - A piece of software that allows you to make your own WWW pages.

Server - A computer which stores WWW pages and sends them across the Internet for viewers.

HTML - Hypertext Markup Language - A computer language that allows servers and browsers to display WWW pages.
