Northeastern State University
The Oklahoma Social Science Research
Institute, housed in Political Science at Northeastern State
University, was established to provide a medium for the compilation and
presentation of campaign, election, and voting data. Every state
provides some electronic access to their
election data. Each state, however, presents its data in a
different format. Voting results range from statewide aggragrate
totals to individual county returns. There is no standardization
of data presentation or of the election results by the individual
states. The Oklahoma Social Science Research Institute was
created and designed to provide this service.
The presentation of these data in a
common, standardized format creates the possibility for infinite
election data analysis. County by county election data for every
national or state office in each primary, special, or general election
for the individual states provides a new and unique opportunity for
election data analysis. Voting trends can be compared or
contrasted within, between, or across election districts of all types
for a single election or for a series of elections. Party
strengths and weaknesses can be charted. Individual candidates or
offices can be observed. State or national offices can be
analyzed
in terms of political party activity, redistricting, or voting trends
at
the local, state, or national level. The mission of the Oklahoma
Social
Science Research Institute is to provide the data in a format which
will
facilitate election and voting data research and analysis.
At present, election data is being presented for Missouri. Other states will be added will be added as their data is processed. Each state's county by county voting data will be presented for all state or national offices as well as initiative, referendum, or constitutional ballot issues. Election information and data can be accessed from the state election directory page.
