OKAMP Program
Scholarships and Summer Internship Programs for Underrepresented
Minorities
The Oklahoma Alliance
for Minority Participation in Science,Mathematics,
Engineering and Technology is comprised of
28 universities and colleges
within the state of Oklahoma. OSU is the Lead Institution, NSU is
one of
seven Partner Institutions and there are twenty Affiliate Institutions
from
across the state. The other Lead Institutions are OU, Langston, UCO,
Northwestern, Southeastern, and East Central. The Affiliate Institutions
include Bacone, Cameron, Connors, Murray, NEO A&M, Northern
Oklahoma Community College, Oklahoma Panhandle, OSU-Okmulgee
Phillips, Rogers, Rose State, Seminole State, Southern Nazarene,
Southwestern, Tulsa Community College, University of Science and Arts
of Oklahoma, and TU.
The primary goal of the OKAMP
program is to increase the number of
minorities enrolled and graduating in science, mathematics, engineering
and
technology by 15% annually, and to increase the number of graduate
students in these fields. In order to accomplish this goal, the Alliance
has
established three components:

Summer Bridge Program
Summer
Research Internships
Scholarship Application
NSU has participated in two components -- Summer
Research Internships
and the Semester Scholarship. The NSU
OKAMP Scholarship Program
is under the direction of Dr. Myron Cherry, and the Campus Coordinator
is Carol Rhoads. NSU OKAMP recipients receive $1,500 per academic
year and the students participating in the Summer Research Internship
receive an additional $2,500.
