Accelerated Readerฎ Codes
Accelerated Reader interest levels are designed to help you
target the most appropriate grade ranges for a book. They are based on the
subject/content of the book. Accelerated Reader uses three interest level
designations. They are:
LG: Kindergarten-Grade 3
MG: Grade 4-8
UG: Grades 9-12
What is Accelerated Reader?
If you are on the Titlewave
home page, click on the Accelerated Reader link in the Collection Development
area, or the Accelerated Reader link in the Book Sets, Series and State Lists
area.
If you are working on a list or looking at search results,
use the Accelerated Reader link under Collection Development on the left side
of the page to do your search.
Lexile Codes
Lexile codes are sometimes used in
conjunction with the Lexile measure of a text to
indicate special characteristics of the text. The codes are:
AD: Adult-Directed
BR: Beginning Reader
IG: Illustrated
NP: Non-Prose
PB: Picture Book
RA: Read Aloud

Interest Levels - Interest Levels
Interest Levels are based on the subject/content of the book and target the
most appropriate grade ranges for potential readers. An interest level of 3-6 means
that the subject/content of the book is appropriate for students in the third
through sixth grades.
Interest levels (IL)
K-3 - Kindergarten through Grade 3
3-6 - Grades 3 through 6
5-8 - Grades 5 through 8
YA - Young Adult
AD - Adult Books for Young Adults
PF - Professional
