MINUTES of the Faculty Council Meeting, Friday, March 9, 2001, 3:00 pm

A. Committees and Standing Reports

     1. Minutes of February 23, 2001 Meeting
The minutes were amended to reflect the accurate proceedings and accepted by the group.
     2. Treasurer's Report - Attached
     3. Faculty Awards Committee
Several names have been submitted, and the process, now streamlined, is progressing appropriately
     4. Nominations Committee
It was reported that several individuals are expressing a desire to run
     5. Welfare Committee - Attached

B. Old Business
     1. Faculty Handbook Revisions
Few minor changes for clarification will be made in this revision: no new policy changes have been made, except for the item in B2
     2. Clarification Initiative on Merit Pay Procedures
The Faculty Handbook Revision will include a statement that merit pay is to be based upon the criteria for tenure and promotion.
     3. University Committee Restructuring Initiative 
This process has been completed
     4. Faculty Role in Freshman Convocation
A committee composed primarily of faculty is being formed which will oversee the Freshman Convocation. The intent of this convocation is to provide an academic introduction to incoming freshmen.

C. New Business
         1. Honors Program Presentations
Dr. Michael Turner and Jackie Wilcox made a presentation concerning the forthcoming Honours Program
         2. Dean Personnel Changes
A faculty member from the College of Math, Science, and Nursing expressed concern over the 01 March 2001 announcement by Dean Dr. Douglas Harrington of his impending return to full time teaching. 
    3. E-Mail Discussions/Presentations
Representatives from the sub-committee from the Administrative and Academic Technology committees which made a proposed change to the current policy regarding internal e-mail usage on campus, gave assurances to Council that the intent of this proposed change was not to limit faculty communication, but was proposed due to hardware concerns.. They gave verbal assurances that there would be no restriction on the use of the 00000000F listserv..
