Northeastern State University’s Faculty Circle of Excellence Awards for
2001-02

NSU President, Dr. Larry Williams, Dr. Lallie Scott, Dr. Doug Penisten, Dr. Maryene Bentley, and Dr. James Pate, NSU Vice President for Academic Affairs.
The winners of the Faculty Circle of Excellence Awards for 2001-02 are
as follows:
For Teaching: Dr. Lallie Scott (Geography)
For Research: Dr. Mayrene Bentley (English and Languages)
For: Service: Dr. Doug Penisten (Optometry)
The awards ceremony and reception for the award winners was held in
the NET Tower Room - 6th floor on April 24, Wednesday at 3:30 pm.
The Circle of Excellence awards are a way for outstanding faculty to be recognized and awarded for their hard work.
Dr. Lallie Scott, associate professor of geography began teaching at NSU in 1993. She teaches nine different courses and is constantly trying to come up with ways to keep things fresh and interesting for her students. She always tries to work in a multimedia-equipped classroom whenever possible and says that she couldn't teach some of her classes if she did not have access to technology.
Dr. Doug Penisten, professor of optometry, has served on 19 different university committees and was on a Kiwanis committee for four years as well as serving the community in many other projects.
Dr. Maryene Bentley, assistant professor of English and linguistics, has written many papers that have been presented at various seminars, was invited to join a professional advisory committee for the Cherokee Nation, presented her paper at the Oklahoma Native Language Association and just recently received the French Embassy Scholarship that was granted to her by the Southwest Conference on Language Teaching as well as many other accomplishments.
