Material contained within this document is a compilation of lesson plans and test questions compiled during the Fall 1998 semester by the students in Dr. Carl Farinelli's Teaching English in the High School, ENG4133 at Northeastern State University. Study questions have been written by students and collected from other sources. Review materials come from class lectures, students' notes, outlines of textbooks, and other charts and lists gathered by students in the class. However, these materials primarily come from the imaginations of the students in the English methods class (ENG4133) and from notes, handouts, and other materials from English courses that the students have taken at NSU and other universities. We would like to caution the student using this manual as a review for the state teachers test to be aware that none of these questions are meant to be exactly like those on the state teachers exam for several reasons:
1. Most of these questions were written by students as a class project using the state objectives as their guide,
2. The state test supposedly changes in content and may change in format at any time therefore these review questions may not necessarily correlate to future objects or may not even look like a future test format,
3. This review manual is simply a problem solving project trying to approach different ways to study for the state examination.
We would also suggest that a student reviewing for the state exam use a variety of study methods that best reflect the student's own learning style and needs. Further, students should go back over all of the notes and textbooks from their English classes. Other methods of study would include getting together with groups of people who are studying for the exam and using group methods of study as well as checking the NSU library, the State Dept. Of Education, and with the certification officer at NSU for other manuals, audio tapes and computer programs that are available for review for the exam. Finally, it is suggested that the student look at the research on "test wiseness" that is available in the ERIC documents at NSU and UCT libraries.
