Northeastern State University offers degree programs in Spanish and Cherokee, a minor in Spanish, a certificate program in ESL, and elementary-level courses in French, German, Greek, Latin, and Japanese.

Students may complete a language course to fulfill part of their humanities general education requirement. Education majors may take a language couse to meet the Novice-High proficiency requirement mandated by the state of Oklahoma for all teacher candidates, or they may contact faculty in the appropriate language to set up a proficiency exam to fulfill the requirement.
