Penny Dotson

Dr. Penny Dotson is the dean of the College of Business and Industry, Northeastern State University, Tahlequah, Oklahoma.  Prior to taking that position in July, 1999, she was the chairperson for the Marketing and Meetings and Destination Management department at NSU.   The MDM Program at NSU is the third oldest degree-granting program in tourism management in the United States, and the second oldest degree-granting program in meeting management. 

As the author of the first textbook in meeting management, Introduction to Meeting Management, Dotson has been a pioneer in developing educational programs for the meetings industry. The second edition of the book, published by the Professional Convention Management Association, was issued in 1995, and is also available in a Spanish language edition. Dotson has written articles for industry publications and has conducted workshops and seminars in several countries. 

Dr. Dotson has undergraduate degrees in management and marketing, a master of business administration, and a doctor of education degree with emphasis in higher education and marketing. She is a Certified Meeting Professional (CMP), and recently completed a three-year term on the CMP board of directors representing the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA).  She is a member of PCMA, Meeting Professionals International (MPI), the Council of Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Education (CHRIE), and a member of the CHRIE convention management education committee.  She serves as the chairperson for the Citizens Advisory Council for Oklahoma State Parks and Resorts, and is a board member for Green Country Marketing Association. 

In her spare time, Dotson enjoys traveling, reading, and writing. She and her husband, Hershal, also operate a cattle and horse ranch.
