COURSE PURPOSE:
This course has been designated as an approved systematics course for students
in the Biology-Organismic degree program. It is also a course option in the
Biology-Fisheries and Wildlife degree.
EXPECTED COURSE OUTCOMES:
This course will cover the vast array of
topics that can be considered invertebrate zoology. We will endeavor to take
a comparative approach to show similarities and differences in the basic physiological
systems. The lab will be a vehicle to actually see the invertebrate specimens
but also to do dissections of representative invertebrates to illustrate anatomical
differences.
1. The student will have a broad understanding
of the invertebrate phyla and their phylogenetic relationships.
2. The student will understand the body systems common to invertebrates and how they are similar or different .
