Arthus reaction - experimental
  • The "Arthus Reaction" is a localized form of type III hypersensitivity reaction.
  • Antigen to which a patient has been sensitized (or presumably sensitized to) is introduced (e.g., under the skin)
  • Localized tissue necrosis resulting from acute immune vasculitis (usually in the skin)
  • Lesion develops over 4-10 hours; may ulcerate
  • Histology shows fibrionoid necrosis of vessels, platelet thromboses, edema, hemorrhage, and numerous neutrophils
