Arthus reaction - experimental

- The "Arthus Reaction" is
a localized form of type III hypersensitivity reaction.
- Antigen to which a patient has been
sensitized (or presumably sensitized to) is
introduced (e.g., under the skin)
- Localized tissue necrosis resulting
from acute immune vasculitis (usually in the skin)
- Lesion develops over 4-10 hours; may
ulcerate
- Histology shows fibrionoid necrosis
of vessels, platelet thromboses, edema,
hemorrhage, and numerous neutrophils
