How is the library arranged?

For general information about the library, such as hours and maps, visit the library's home page. All materials are organized by subject using the Library of Congress Classification system. Reference materials (Spanish dictionaries in the PC’s and PQ’s include literature resources such as The Oxford Companion to Spanish Literature and Latin American Writers) are located on the first floor. Journals are on the second floor and the main, circulating collection is on the third floor.

Where do I locate books on the Spanish language?

On the third floor in the main collection PC 4001-4977.

Where do I locate books on Spanish literature or authors?

On the third floor in the main collection PQ 6001-8929. To locate books by specific authors, search the Online Catalog  by the author’s last name. Shelved next to the fiction would be any criticisms or biographical monographs about the same author. The reference collection also contains such titles as, The Oxford Companion to Spanish Literature (Ref. PQ 6006.O95) and Latin American Writers (Ref. PQ 7081.A1L37 1989) The Dictionary of Literary Biography (Ref. PN 451.D32) may contain biographical information about your author. Use books about the time period or country covered in your novel to explore other aspects of literary criticism.

Where do I locate Spanish periodicals?

Use Hispania Per. PC 4001.H7 and the Bulletin of Hispanic Studies Per. PC 4008.B8 located on the second floor.
 

How do I locate subjects in periodicals?

Use M.L.A. Bibliography, Expanded Academic Index ASAP, and OmniFile to research topics in journals. Subjects covered include themes in literature, biographical articles about authors, and criticism on specific works.

Where do I locate videos?

They are housed at the Reserve Desk (first floor, north entrance.).  To locate videos, search the Online Catalog doing a boolean search on videorecording and spanish.
 

Where do I locate Web sites?

Try the Spanish Government’s Web [http://www.map.es/]  Try also the library’s Foreign Language and Search Engine pages.
 

Where can I find an MLA style manual?

The fifth edition of the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers is located behind the Reference Desk at the call number Ready Ref. LB 2369.G53 1999.
 

Where can I go for assistance?

Librarians are available at the Reference Desk on the first floor of the library. Call 456-5511 ext. 3240 for assistance.
