The descriptions below are taken directly from the EbscoHost Web site.

Searchasaurus
Elementary School Resources:
Primary Search is a magazine index (it also includes pamphlets) designed specifically for elementary school libraries.   It has indexing for 100 magazines (1984--) and has approximately 60 titles that are  full text (1989--). "All full text articles are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles).  This database also provides the American Heritage Children's Dictionary, 3rd Edition from Houghton Mifflin, and an Image Collection of 107,000 photos, maps and flags."

Middle School Resources & Junior High School:
Middle Search Plus contains full text for more than 150 popular, middle school magazines. In addition to the full text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for nearly 200 magazines. All full text articles are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles). Full text is also available for thousands of biographies, historical essays and student pamphlets. Additionally, Middle Search Plus contains Essential Documents in American History, and other important information resources such as an Image Collection of 107,000 photos, maps and flags, 88,000 biographies, and 83,500 primary source documents. Full text backfiles date as far back as 1989, while indexing and abstract backfiles go as far back as January of 1984. This database is updated daily via EBSCOhost.

High School:
MAS Ultra - School Edition, designed specifically for high school libraries, provides full text from more than 500 popular general interest and current events publications covering general reference, health, science, and other areas. In addition to the full text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for more than 600 titles. Every full text articles is assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles).  This database also includes more than 3,000 charts, tables and graphs; 5,000 full text Magill Book Reviews; nearly 550 health and science-related full text pamphlets; coverage of nearly 250 reference books (including the Columbia Encyclopedia, the CIA World Fact Book and World Almanac & Book of Facts) and an image collection of 91,000 photos, maps & flags. Full text backfiles date as far back as January of 1985, while indexing and abstract backfiles date as far back as January of 1984.

TOPICsearch:
This current events database allows researchers to explore social, political and economic issues, scientific discoveries and other popular topics discussed in today's classrooms. TOPICsearch contains full text for over 64,000 articles from more than 3,000 diverse sources including international and regional newspapers, EBSCO's unparalleled periodicals collection, biographies, public opinion polls, book reviews, pamphlets, government information and EBSCO's Current Issues database. This database provides full text for more than 1,450 publications. In addition to the full text, indexing and abstracts are provided for more than 1,800 journals. Topics covered include: Aging, AIDS, Alcohol, Computers, Crime, Drugs, Education, Energy, Ethics, Family, Health, Human Rights, Multiculturalism, National Debate, People, Religion, Sports, Women, Work, World Affairs, etc. Examples of publications offered in TOPICsearch include: Addiction, Adolescence, Adult Learning, Advertising Age, American Fitness, Billboard, Child Welfare, Christianity Today, Clinical Nursing Research, Criminal Justice Ethics, Daily Variety, Discover, Field & Stream, Financial Management, Foreign Affairs, Fortune, Geriatrics, Health, HR Magazine, InformationWeek, Journal of Family Issues, Women in Business, and many more. The majority of full text titles are available in native (searchable) PDF, or scanned-in-color.

Funk & Wagnalls New Encyclopedia database:
For students and adults alike, the Funk & Wagnalls New Encyclopedia database indexes over 25,000 records, covering an array of topics. Full text for each record may be easily accessed by double clicking on the topic from the display. The database contains various images, offers brief biographies as well as information in a variety of subject areas. This database is updated annually.


EBSCO's Encyclopedia of Animals:
This offers in-depth information on a variety of topics relating to animals. The database consists of indexing, abstracts, and full text records describing the nature and habitat of familiar animals. Within some of the full text, image links are available for the Windows client. Images are accessed by double-clicking any image graphic.

MasterFILE Premier:
MasterFILE Premier, designed specifically for public libraries, provides full text for nearly 1,950 general periodicals covering a broad range of disciplines including general reference, business, education, health, general science, multi-cultural issues and much more. In addition to the full text, this database provides indexing and abstracts for nearly 2,600 titles. This database features: 5,000 full text Magill Book Reviews, 316 reference and travel books including the World Almanac & Book of Facts 2001; full text from 88,000 biographies, 83,500 full text primary source documents, American Heritage Dictionary, 4th Edition and an image collection of 107,000 photos, maps and flags. MasterFILE Premier offers PDF backfiles as far back as 1975 for key publications including American Libraries, Foreign Affairs, History Today, Judaism, Library Journal, National Review and Natural History.

Newspaper Source:
Newspaper Source provides cover-to-cover full text for 23 national (U.S.) and international newspapers, including USA Today, The Christian Science Monitor, The Washington Post, The Times (London), The Toronto Star, etc. The database also contains selected full text from more than 180 regional (U.S.) newspapers, including The Boston Globe, The Chicago Tribune, The Detroit Free Press, The Miami Herald, The New York Daily News, The San Jose Mercury News, etc. In addition, full text television & radio news transcripts are provided from CBS News, FOX News, NPR, etc.

Introduction to Passport II


CO=click on

1. Go to the Oklahoma State Department of Education Web site http://www.sde.state.ok.us
2. Select Passport II
3. Log-in with e-mail address and password
4. Select Lesson Planner
5. Add new template
6. Give it a name
7. CO Add
8. Get PASS and resources
9. With pulldown menu, choose content (example:  information literacy)
10. Select grade level  (example:  K-12)
11. Select strand (example:  Information Literacy) and CO GO
12. Choose standard (example:  #2) & CO GO
13. Choose objective (example #2) "The student will be able to determine accuracy and credibility of authorship and content of a document."
14. Click the checkbox to the left to add this item to your objective cart
15. CO add this item to your Objective Cart
16. Put a checkmark in the title boxes of the lessons in which you have an interest.
17. CO on the hotlink for the lesson and minimize the screen.
18.. CO Add links to URL cart.
19. CO Teacher Desktop
20. CO cart management
21. If the information is correct, CO checkout
22. CO checkout
23. CO Lesson Planner and find name of lesson plan
24. CO Edit plan
25. CO click to make public
26. CO continue
27. CO continue
28. Finish

You can logout and login as a student to see how your page appears.  The lesson plan can be locked when you don't want students to be able to see it. After one year of inactivity, you may be notified that your lessons plans could be removed.  Remember to make a hard copy or copy and paste your lesson plan into a word processor.

The Marco Polo link includes access to Wraparound lessons which are customized to Oklahoma PASS objectives.  To insert graphics and other special text materials, HTML code must be used. This must be saved twice in order to be viewed by your secret word users.  Examples are listed below:
